  1. That's all from last night John. Episode 4.

It was his "Don't tell me what I can't do" and the reveal that he had been in a wheelchair before.

And yes, the face off was ace.

It's unlikely that Dr Jack was experiencing DTs when he saw the man on the beach, because they are more tactile/visual distortions. Seeing someone may well be alcoholic hallucinosis, setting in after a couple of days (is that how long we've been on the island?). Based on his presentation so far, there would be little evidence for the onset of withdrawal symptoms.

It's a shame that the three main ladies has to be so vanilla, isn't it?

  2. Saw Steam Boy last night.

    Absolutely gorgeous to look at.

A nice story of three generations of a family in 1866 "Steam Punk" story (Robert(o) Stevenson-san is working for Her Majesty to stop Johnny Foreigner stealing the lead in the steam-driven inventions race). There are obvious parallels with the nuclear race, which don't wuite go as far as they might, which is a good thing.

It's a tad over-long (remove 20-30 minutes of extraneous story-fat) and probably deserves to be a four part serial.

And for once, the japanese actors need to be dubbed, because they just don't quite get the understatedness of Victorians and Northerners.

Still highly recommended if you can watch it in the home.

In fact, wait for the DVD with English actor dubbed version.

  3. It's very good Alseid.

I was going to do a Newcastle/Ravenscar one but I defer to yours and will probably do London /The World instead.

I notice that almost everyone else has been SLOW to come forward.

Come one folks, we know you can do it.

  4. As this is my thread I say E4 counts as shown and anyone who has not seen it yet should be warned off in the title. John, please can you replace "The Wrath of Adrian" with "Ch.4 viewers wait 1 week" or something ?

  5. Just a moment to check, I am one ahead of Channel 4 having watched part 3 on E4. Anyone not seen that yet ?

I am particularly intrigued by the older guy who has the backgammon set.

(Is he the one who was Frank Black's mate in Millennium?)

  6. Hilde,

    it is necessary.

I only wish there were a place where I could discuss Lost with friends who are only watching it now as it is shown on UK TV. That's how it was done in the old days.

Yet I have friends who watched it months ago, having to dance around spoilers like crabs avoiding a hole in the sand.

If anyone is interested in discussing it in real time (even if you've seen it all as long as you can avoid glib asides about spoilery stuff) please let me know.

It reminds me of a seventies adventure serial where they were all on an island with different "time zones" - methinks it was set in the Bermuda Triangle ...

    wait a sec ...

    Fantastic Journey.

I thought that was the name but always confuse it with the one about the dogs that chase the cat across America.

  7. Well the lock-up is in the background of 213, but you can't read the writing ;-)

I think it says James just above Sethos.

I see Lyra there and a special message that you have to look close to read.

Is that a skull-headed demon looking out of the right hand window ?

    Or something more serious !

Nice one Tim, you're really pushing the boat out with a bang !

  8. This is not the "I never understood cricket" thread, that's the one where Kris is going on about Celtic being better than Everton.

This is also not the "I don't like cricket" thread. Because even though I don't (much) I can see the importance of Mark's important first post.

This is clearly the "England are beating Australia" thread.

Now stop all your wet blanketry and pile in on the Aussies.

  9. With the going being flat to insipid, England's bowlers have done a top notch job.

The off breaks have been particularly telling, but it is the slips and the silly mid ons that deserve the plaudits.
