  1. Today, I finished a two week stint at the Wellington City Council.

On Tuesday I fly in a deathtrap-looking plane to a place called Kaikoura. I'll be there for around two weeks excavating, before going to Tonga to do some fieldwork there.

I'm thinking that if I can get regular internet access in Tonga, I might set up some kind of daily "Tonga Blog" thread here complete with pictures and such.

  2. Uhh, Spoilers:

They derailed it a bit with him nearly missing out on meeting Beth in Australia and finding out she'd buggered off to Paris.

There's a lot still going on though, what with the Astronaut baby, his sister and that chick Yorick knocked up, the Australian spy and that Middle-Eastern Army-woman, and the Ninja monkey and Dr M. thing and such too.

Its almost like Vaughan's blown the plot out a bit too much without clearly focussing on where its going. Its not tight in such a way that these could all be satisfactorally reconciled if it were to be wrapped up in under a hundred issues.

Its like one of those wandering hero TV series, like Kung-Fu or something.

Hey Nightpunch, do you have any idea when the series is supposedly supposed to wrap up?

  3. I'm probably more inclined to think that the earlier stuff was better.

I think what's holding it back as a series is its not really going anywhere fast. The motivations for it proceeding at the moment is that they're chasing after a monkey.

Sure they noted Ampersand's importance, but he was used to such a comedic effect, that it hardly seems dire that he's been monkey-napped.

  4. What I never got was the phrase "Lying makes baby Jesus cry" or something to that effect.

For starters, babies cry all the time, so what difference does it make, and then Jesus wasn't a baby at the time of his death, so technically baby Jesus doesn't exist.

  5. I'm reading it, and one thing that's puzzling me, is what happened to Pia Guerra, the original artist and co-creator of this series?

The art duties seem to have been completely taken over by Goran Sudzuka, who has a similar style.

As for the women being the same age, I wouldn't say that's a very accurate observation of the series as a whole.

  6. Not especially.

I have specific grievances towards the South Island's attitudes to the whole concept of the "Southern Man."

It seems that the idealised New Zealand man is an ignorant, backwards farm bastard who drinks Speights (an entirely average beer), and says "mate" a lot, and genuinely shuns urban society.

This does not agree with me.

What's worse is Otago University students conforming to the stereotype laid out for them. More on that later, maybe.

    EDIT: Accidental racial slur removed.

  7. Yeah, and he had that good story line going with the hot chick and the dog that was building something. It just kinda evaporated.

I want Spider-Man to go back to that exact point in time. Living alone in an apartment, no Mary-Jane, no Avengers. I seem to recall he even had a supporting cast outside of Mary-Jane and Aunt May.
