when I write fanifction,I try to keep my characters in character,save for some plausable changes...key example in a seriousl NSFW fic,I wrote Nick Necro as an occultist/ tattoo artist (he did do tats on john and zatanna) who was an ex-drug addict who secretly going mad because he paranoid could hear 'voices from the other side' and could NOT control his ability to see into the future or past(he can canonically do this...the future thing not the past).he used magick to self medicate and...

then we ended up with the plot to JLD and books of magick and all that nu52 crossover fuckery.

Right,so since I been binging on hellblazer and anything related to it,I came across so many different iterations.I realized something.

1)I really,really don't like John in Azarello's run.He bothered me too much and he was a little shit who got everything he deserved.

2)I really liked Keanusteen.Was awesome and what made me wanna look into hellblazer in the first place.admit,it was a good movie,just not a good hellblazer movie

3)I liked Delano's John.Seemed very much human

4)Ennis was good,but I need to finish ennis's run to make a final determination

5)Gaiman,YES

6)Mina and Diggle,I didn't read as much...I'm kinda reading the comics as I find them

7)Milligan should've handled it better considering john's age...

He did this in the midst of a great big fuck off crossover with barely a glimpse at the hordes of superheroes.

And he duped Darkseid.

and that was better than milligan's run.

.also..he'd probably where under -cover bi-pride crap (punk,remember) that only people like me would recognize .

I am still kind of enjoying the Convergence story that is the lynchpin of the whole ugly crossover, and I hear that Detective Comics is worth a look.

 

The planet Telos is where Brainiac has stashed a load of cities, stolen from every one of DC's timelines (including pre-Crisis, Elseworlds and many more). The plan was to stage the Multiverse's greatest ever WHO WILL WIN?

The story is wisely focused around EARTH 2's more interesting characters, and they have to deal with allies and enemies from some proper shite stories. (And some good ones)

 

CAN THE SURVIVORS OF APOCALYPSE ON EARTH 2 SAVE THE MULTIVERSE ???

 

Individual stories have been as easy as Zero Hour to pick up without having to know everything, and some great writers and artists have been engaged in a couple of the books.

 

Plastic Man & The Freedom Fighters pitches the WW2 heroes into a New York that has been conquered by them Nazis as all heroes in the domes have no powers. An elseworldsy tale, which turns once the dome opens. I think this is where the Vampires Turn up but I may be wrong.

 

Shazam is just an enjoyable shazam story. No-one can say their magic words, so it's a battle of wits.

They get their powers back fight the villains and the next issue will fight the world of Gotham By Gaslight (insert rolling eye icon here).

But mostly a good read thanks to Evan "Doc" Shaner's artwork and a fun story.

 

Crime Syndicate has the bad guys going good, in an almost Watchmen type scenario, because they have no powers,

One of them looks back on their wrong doings and concludes "With all of the powers in out hands, WE chose the easy way out. Those 'do-gooders' were heroes on their world...and we were the cowards of ours." Sadly that interesting tale is sidelined by the arrival of the Justice League from DC One Million. Yawn.

 

Swamp Thing by Len Wein and Kelley Jones. NEED I SAY MORE?

It's rooted (LOL, I slay me) in proper Swamp Thing (ie Vol 1 and 2 up to and including Alan Moore) but Swampy is cut off from the Green and surviving on very little plant connection. In fact, I shall over-work the following metaphor: Swampy is cut off from his life source in much the same way as the Swamp Thing run that this temporarily replaces had lost its life. (I dropped that and even the finale was drab).

Probably my fave of the books.

 

Unless that's Justice Society, which has our Earth 2 heroes, aged, dead and dying without that protection of their superpowers.

There's an unsurprising but impactful return to full force at the end of part 1. But this book is all about character.

 

I have a couple more to buy, I think.

Detective Comics is getting praise, Len Wein, Bill Sienkiewicz and Denys Cowan !

And I like the cover of Booster Gold, must look within.

Incidentally, I do not like the Chip Kidd covers at all.

In all honesty,I could probably write a better and more believable reboot than most of these guys do,it's the thing that frustrates me with the big 2...dc more so than marvel...

they really need to pick a damn universe,go with it and put everything else in elseworlds.shit do you know how hard it is to try to write a fanfic when parts of the cannon are fanfic-y and can change at will??

RE: SPN- I can't see how since the most glaring one of all is Cas' attire (and that got changed in the wake of the show being developed when SPN was in Season 9). Since Cas and season 5, it disappeared up its own backside as far as Cas becoming a god, Leviathans, more fangirl pandering, Crowley overstaying his welcome, "DeanMon" (which isn't remotely the same as Demon Constantine)

i mean seasons 1-5.i refuse to acknowledge anything after that

I think his laughing magician ability is overrated. His conartistry skills is what's more impressive. He's managed to outwit supreme beings and managed to kill one. He's always prepared, like the one time when Superman tried to attack John.

that's part of the laughing magician /synchronicity wave bullshit ability...really it's a handwave alot to explain why the crazy fuck hadn't been killed off for real yet, but the idea is an awesome one.i think it should've been explored more...however,certain authors made john seem out right disturbing and more than human in ways john may or may not be aware of..i was recently back in azarello's run and to me,john seemed out right fucking scary...like he was really,really ,wrong,off kilter and like he was...like an omen for real.really. delano had him more human (those are the two i am currently switching between now) idk.

in new52,it doesn't really come up much (is implied in justice league dark...if you pay attention .Like when he's first introduced,he's being weird.again).though in all honest? zatanna would know something was off and nick necro (who sits here divining the future in his spare time...which might be why he dumped those two in the first place) would've picked up on that shit real fucking quic,after the revelation (spoiler) that the damn plot for part of justice league dark in the damn place was him running shit from the shadows,(what the fuck,nicky...seriously i'm impressed ...only reason why john was able to even get him was cuz he's still got a soft spot for his sweetheart and keeps givin' him chances).Not to mention Giovanni zatara.

as for his abilities,its like 'conjob' ,john and constantine are NOT the same and are different personalities...and through the 'constant one',and from lady constantine..it's heavily implied that john is HER reincarnation...which would be fun to touch upon (y'know ,sexuality and gender and all that good stuff.Be funny if they looked into their past and found zatanna was a man and he was a woman) .

and milligan really dissapointed me at the end...the laughing magician should've went out with a bang,he should've fucked the muiltiverse or something..the meeting of earth-2 john and bringing him back was more exciting than the end of hellblazer? really?!

I understand the distaste for straight-washing...its just as bad as white washing...however let me say a few things first about the commoncs.Really,the comiccs were written by heterosexual white guys and the perception of non heterosexuality was distorted.Clearly ,most of the writers wrote john as straight...as a person who goes both ways ,I can outright say this .This was because most authors and artists were probably uncomfortable with his sexuality....even azarello .becausewhy the deviance ? Damn ,you couldn't be more subtle like having the person we see with long hair blowing common turns out to be a dude and not a chick ?

Also another side of the coin even most lgbt people ...what about the love aspect? Is John bi-romantic ? In Hellblazer no ,but new52 john was implied to have had feelings for nick Necro before he lost his shit ,so yes .That version of him was a bi-romantic bisexual .

Also ,is he in the closet ? Me personally,if you don't ask I won't tell ...unless it's relevant to the situation at hand ..which is why it came up in my intro speech.If I wasn't making a comparisson ,I probably would not bring it up.

Really what it is ,no one on the show or comics are comfortable with a dude who sux cox as a protagonist and think its ok to run by it ,not to mention some people think men can't be bisexual

an anime is what it needs! the shit i've seen in anime! they could outright do a hellblazer anime and pull it off .seriously. but yeadh i agree there will be some more japanese culture...and john would be less subtle with his bisexual tendencies.a LOT of anime have blink-and-you-might-miss gay moments with characters of both genders and flirting with the same sex and nobody bats an eye! americans need to learn to do this! there are lgbt characters all over anime yet no one in japan seems to make a big deal.usually the quality of anime is what's embraced and a lil' ship teasin' from the same sex (see yaoi and yuri) is usually welcomed.
